Suspended Platform Safety, Setup and Maintenance Documents

Check the equipment and site documentation needed before installing, operating or maintaining a suspended work platform.

Prepare the complete equipment record

A suspended platform is a system of deck sections, hoists, working ropes, safety ropes and locks, controls and suspension equipment. Before use, identify the actual configuration and obtain the applicable manufacturer instructions. HSE guidance emphasizes suitable selection, installation, examination and competent workers. Its guidance is a UK reference, not a substitute for requirements in another jurisdiction.

Review setup with the responsible site team

The document pack should cover the approved suspension arrangement, working-load conditions, power supply, access, operating limits and emergency arrangements. Installation, examination and operation require the competent people and approvals applicable to the site. This purchasing checklist does not provide assembly, rescue or safety-lock testing instructions; use the instructions and plan for the actual equipment.

Keep maintenance tied to the actual component

Request the inspection and maintenance schedule, service records and part identification for each hoist, lock and control assembly. Report defects through the site's equipment-control procedure and obtain authorized assessment before return to service. A maintenance interval or lubricant specified in another manufacturer's manual must not be copied to an LTD hoist or safety lock without confirmation.
